Nimitz Way connects Wildcat Canyon to the San Pablo Ridge Trail. A four-mile stretch of trail is named for Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. It served as an access road for the Nike missile sites that operated in the hills of Wildcat Canyon during the Cold War. These sites were constructed to protect the Bay Area from a Soviet threat. The Wildcat Canyon Trail is a popular destination for students and young professionals who want to live in the area. There are spacious apartments with all the utilities included, as well as a clubhouse with a game room. These units are located only two blocks from the UA campus.
